Brother MFC-240C Review– The Brother MFC-240C is an all-in-one printer, which can be used as a printer, scanner, copier or fax machine. It comes with an automatic document feeder, which allows you to scan, copy, or fax stacks of up to 10 pages at a time. The MFC-240C connects to your computer via the included USB cable. It prints at standard low-volume rates of up to 25 pages each moment clearly and up to 20 pages each moment in variety.
The ink cartridges (one at a time for each color) are easy to replace, and they are comparable in price to other models of ink cartridges. By using individual cartridges, you can save money by not having to replace all of the color ink cartridges when only one color runs out. The machine will notify you when the ink for a certain color is running low, so you’ll get an alert before it’s completely out. When you replace one of the ink cartridges, the printer will automatically detect the new cartridge. There’s also a self-cleaning feature you can use if your copy or print starts to look smudged or dirty. One drawback of the MFC-240C, which many other printers have, is that when one ink cartridge runs out of ink, the printer will not print at all, even if that ink cartridge is’
The machine doesn’t crash very often, and when it does, user errors often occur. It doesn’t handle very thick paper well — having to bend it too much to feed it through the paper path — but it does print envelopes and labels reliably (as long as the envelope flaps aren’t sticking out). The document feeder can hold a small stack of paper, but if the pages have a different consistency, or tend to stick together, the feeder might not feed all the pages reliably. You can also scan and copy glass, any size 8.5″ x 11″ or smaller.
When there is a paper jam, it will be difficult to clean it. Depending on where the paper jam is, you can remove the paper tray to retrieve the jammed paper, or pull it out through the exit area. If it gets stuck right in the middle of the feed line, you can remove the back cover (which comes off right away) to get it. Removing the paper is not usually difficult, but the machine does not always recognize when a jam has been cleared, and quite often you will have to turn the printer off and on (reset your print job) to clear the jam.
The MFC-240C has one paper tray, which holds up to 50 sheets of plain paper measuring 8.5″ x 14″ or less weighing 20 pounds. The feeder system consists of a single feed roller and friction bearing, and both rollers and bearings will last a very long time (many years, with moderate use) before needing to be cleaned or replaced.
The MFC-240C comes with its own drivers and Brother’s comprehensive software suite, called Control Center, which allows you to set different options (such as the type of file you want to save scanned images too) as well as control various functions of the computer. Along with the Control Center, the setup CD also comes with several fonts that you can install on your computer. The scanning function is versatile and lets you scan a file, image, or email (with the right settings). You can scan clearly or variety. Scanning can be designed with various choices relying on the kind of scan you are performing, and you can begin the scan either from a PC or from a printer.
This printer does not have the ability to perform two-sided (duplex) copying or printing. It also lacks an Ethernet port for TCP/IP connectivity, so you can only connect it to one computer at a time using USB, although you can share it with other computers (as long as the connected computer is on.) The operation panel is very small, and can only display little text at a time, but it provides a good description of whatever function you’re using, as well as when something is wrong (such as an empty ink cartridge, paper jam, or paper shortage).
The MFC-240C is a powerful and full-featured multifunction printer that ranks above average compared to other similar models on the market. The user interface is easy to learn, and the various functions of the machine work well and integrate seamlessly with your computer.
