Brother MFC-J4710DW Reviews– The Brother is expanding its range of new A4 landscape printers by presenting the Brother MFC-J4710DW, this type is one that can produce more than one A3 print. With the previous machines, you can insert the A3 sheet into the one-sheet slot on the back and catch it when it enters the front.
MFC-J4710DW Design and Features
Looks like the previous model in this line, with a small tread design and smart black and white style, the MFC-J4710DW is higher, to accommodate 150 sheets and 250 sheets as standard. The upper tray can be used for A4 paper up to 15 x 10 cm, while the bottom has a design that can be extended, so it can be used for A4 or A3 sheets.
To use it with A3, you make the telescope out and adjust the cover. This is a Japanese technical miracle, but it is also deceptive. The top of the paper cantilever tray is in front of the A4 output tray, extending the support area for larger paper. By doing this, it dramatically increases the printer’s footprint and looks rather plastic and thin, but works without problems.
The top surface of the engine is completely flat, but hides a 20-sheet low-profile Automatic Document (ADF) Supplier when you flip the center of the cover. The ADF feeds paper over the feed tray, and has a duplex scan head, scanning both sides of the page in a single path.
MFC-J4710DW Control and Interface
The control panel consists of a 93mm touch screen and touch number pads specifically for fax calls. This machine includes full fax functionality and can handle up to six groups, broadcast to 200 locations and has up to 400 pages of send / send memory.
The small flip-down cover to the left of the control panel hides the SD slot, MemoryStick and USB / Pictbridge, making photo printing on the machine easy.
MFC-J4710DW Print Speed
Brother claims a slightly faster throughput for the MFC-J4710DW, at 35ppm for black and 27ppm for color, rather than the two previous models we’ve reviewed. Being tested, we see a slight difference and nothing like this speed.
Our five-page text print produces 8.3ppm, which is good for inkjet, and this increased to 11.5ppm on a 20-page document. In duplex mode, the standard on this device, still managed 5.9 sides per minute. The five-page test, A4 text and color graphics produce 3.2ppm and, somewhat oddly, five pages, the A3 document completes 11 seconds faster, mainly due to the ink drying interval which decreases on larger sheets.
A 15 x 10cm photo print takes between 1:05 and 1:17, depending on the print source and this is a good time, although some Canon and Epson machines can beat it.
MFC-J4710DW Print Quality and Running Costs
The print quality score is not only based on the printing of ordinary Brother rough black text, but also on color copies. The text is very dim and the colors look faded. What’s strange is that increasing the density level of one level increases many things, so you’re wondering why Brother chose the Normal setting. The machine returns to the default settings when you turn it off.
Color graphics prints on plain paper are bright and clear and A3 prints are as good as on smaller sheets. Printing photos on BP71 Brother paper is also good, with smooth color transitions and lots of detail.
The ‘ruffled’ sheet that Brother must do to feed A4 landscape sheets on top of the grain without jamming, although less so than the previous model in that range. We still measure 68dBA at 0.5 m, which is very hard.
The cost of Brother ink cartridges is slightly down and the standard and XL versions are now cheaper, if you shop. This provides the best cost of 2.7p per page for black and 6.2p for color. These costs are very competitive and show that in many cases inkjet printing is more than a laser rival.
Decision
This is the best of the new Brother tread line, the A3 all-in-one that we have seen. That is partly because of the full A3 capabilities and partly because of additional useful features, such as full duplex scanning heads and good card connectivity and devices. A3 paper handling still looks a little ‘occasional’, and the standard copy settings produce poor results.
