Brother MFC-J497DW Driver Download
Brother MFC-J497DW Driver Download– The Brother MFC-J497DW is a simple and decent budget printer intended for everyday household use. It comes with a scanner that is equipped with an automatic document feeder, has decent connectivity options, and works with Brother’s excellent mobile companion app, so you can perform most tasks right on your smartphone. Although ink cartridges produce few pages and need to be replaced frequently, they are relatively inexpensive, so they are quite cost-effective in the long run. Unfortunately, the print speed is rather mediocre, the input tray is small, and the color accuracy is decent. The photo looks pretty good, although it will take a while to print.
The Brother MFC-J497DW has a great design. The printer feels solid overall even though it’s made entirely of plastic. The ink cartridges can be accessed easily from the front, and the printer does not need to be turned on when replacing the cartridges. Paper jams can be accessed from the back of the printer by simply lifting the panel.
Unfortunately, there are some drawbacks to the design. The power cord is not detachable, making it more difficult to replace if it breaks. The output tray sits in the input tray, which means that if you must load paper during a print job, you must first remove the print from the output tray to access it. Also, if you choose to use a wired USB connection, the ports are located under the scan mat and in the center of the printer. This requires some USB cable routing and effectively shortens it by about a foot.
The display screen of the Brother MFC-J497DW is quite good. It’s quite small, but easily visible when you’re sitting or standing, and the entire front panel can be tilted upwards if needed. This is not a touch screen, so navigation is done only with the buttons on the right. The buttons provide audible feedback when pressed, although they can be disabled if they bother you.
Unfortunately, the Brother MFC-J497DW has a bad cartridge system. Although it performs slightly better than the Epson WorkForce WF-2830, it still produces very few black or color pages, leading to frequent ink cartridge replacement. Also, the printer stops printing when a cartridge runs out, even though that color is not required for a print job. Fortunately, there are high-yield cartridges available if you want to increase your yield. This printer also accepts third-party ink cartridges, but the printer can’t read the ink levels, making it harder to know when to replace them. Finally, using third-party ink cartridges may invalidate your warranty.
The Brother MFC-J497DW has great scanning features. It has an automatic document feeder for scanning long multi-page documents, but it cannot perform duplex scanning, so you will have to scan both sides of two-sided documents manually. The lid can extend slightly if you need to scan thicker documents. Note that when using the automatic document feeder, the scan resolution drops to 600 DPI.
The cost per print of the Brother MFC-J497DW is good. Black and color ink cartridges need to be replaced frequently due to poor results. However, ink cartridges are relatively cheap, so they don’t become too expensive in the long run even if you print a lot. However, the cost of printing in color increases significantly faster than the cost of printing only in black.
Keep in mind that even if you only print in black, most inkjets continue to use color cartridges for service tasks, so you may still need to replace them eventually.
The photo printing quality of the Brother MFC-J497DW is quite good. There is a fair amount of detail and vivid color. However, there are slight banding, which can be seen on the face, in the blue sky, and in darker areas of our test image, such as the calculator in the top right corner. Even though this printer is advertised as being capable of borderless printing, there is still a fine line around the photo.
This result is based on an actual physical photo, not the scanned image provided for the reference above, which may not represent the print quality of the printer’s photo.
